Objectivity is a peculiar demand to make of institutions which, as business corporations, are dedicated first of all to economic survival.

LINESCORE

Subjecting facts to objective analyses is like going to Emerald City and asking for a brain. It cannot be done. Even if you read somewhere that a scarecrow took a trip to the great green city in the Land of Oz, and asked a wizard for a brain, it does not make it a fact...it only makes it true.

MSNBC articulates a liberal, progressive political ideology. The Fox News Channel articulates a more conservative, libertarian ideology. Neither cable news organization provides fair and/or balanced news. Since the meaning of the slogan "Lean Forward" is not entirely obvious, we cannot determine if these two cable news channels lean forward, or not. (Does "lean forward" mean vanguard or move in front of something else?)

This cosmic baseball game sought to find out if there is any social purpose to the subjective brand of journalism MSNBC and the Fox News Channel manufacture. Fox News won this game and that is consistent with television ratings numbers which put Fox News ahead of its competition. FACT: More people watch the Fox News Channel each day than watch MSNBC programming. Given the nature of our economy that means that the Fox News Channel makes more money.

American journalism has been regularly criticized for failing to be "objective." Whether it was Democrats in 1952 complaining of a one-party press biased against Adlai Stevenson or the Nixon-Agnew administration attacking newspapers and television networks for being too liberal...Objectivity is a peculiar demand to make of institutions which, as business corporations, are dedicated first of all to economic survival.
