Paradise Pisces
Roman Woman (circa 50 b.c.)
A lusty and passionate woman who became involved in several court intrigues during the declining years of the Roman Empire. Clodia was the sister of Publius Clodius and wife of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Celer. It is likely she poisoned the latter. Clodia was also the object of the poet Catullus' great passion. He wrote over 100 poems to her. Discretion being the better part of valor, Catullus referred to Clodia as Lesbia in the poems.
Clodia is the veteran of this veteran Pisces pitching staff. She was a member
of the original Vestal Virgins and while not a wall-of-fame type of pitcher, she
has frequently provided the kind of intangible support a championship team
needs. It is quite likely that this will be her last year and it is nice she got
up to the Pisces before retiring. Manager Henry Miller has indicated that Clodia
will also be a part-time assistant pitching coach.
