The filmmaker Woody Allen and the singer Frank Sinatra each had a relationship, at different times, with the actress Mia Farrow. Sinatra's affair with Farrow began in the 1960s. Allen's affair with Farrow began in the 1980s. Like the men themselves, their relationships with Mia Farrow could not have been more different...from beginning to end.

The Allen-Farrow affair lasted a dozen years and ended acrimoniously. Sinatra and Farrow were married for two years and apparently maintained a friendship after their divorce in 1968 until Sinatra passed away in 1998.

Allen's relationship with Farrow began sometime after his romance with the actress Stacey Nelkin. Presumably Allen's film Manhattan was inspired by his affair with Nelkin.

Allen and Farrow, though never married, were partners and close colleagues for nearly twelve years (1980-1992). Farrow appeared in 12 of Allen's 13 films made between 1980 and 1992 (e.g. Zelig, Broadway Danny Rose, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Husbands and Wives among other Allen movies).

Allen and Farrow had a son, Ronan, born in 1987. In 2013 Mia Farrow suggested that Ronan might be Frank Sinatra's son (Source: Vanity Fair, October 2013).

In February 2014, Woody Allen asked, Is [Ronan] my son, or, as Mia suggests, Frank Sinatra's? Granted, he looks a lot like Frank with the blue eyes and facial features... (Source: "Woody Allen Speaks Out" New York Times February 7, 2014)

Sinatra had his lawyer deliver divorce papers to Mia Farrow while she was playing Rosemary in the 1968 film Rosemary's Baby. In different ways, Sinatra and Allen were captivated by younger women. Sinatra's love for a women 30 years younger seems purer, while it lasted. Allen's love affairs, like much of his humor, are cynical in nature.

The Frank Sinatra Songs beat the Woody Allen Films because the passion of a broken heart is stronger than the passion of cynicism. Maybe not always, but some of the time.
