The PRE-RAPHAELITE BASEBALL CLUB competes in the cosmic Underleague and consists of individuals associated with the 19th century Pre-Raphaelite movement. Last year was the team's first cosmic season and they fared very well winning 91 games and losing 71 (.562 winning percentage). There are two rookies on this season's squad. The blind and mournful poet Phillip Bourke Marston is a rookie pitcher and Frederick Myers, co-founder of the Society for Psychical Research is a rookie infielder. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (P.R.B.), the source of the wider aesthetic movement was formed in 1848 by a group of young art students. They became the Victorian era's "Beat Generation". The Pre-Raphaelites were male-dominated, ambivalent in their relations with women, romantic, hermetic and in an active state of rebellion against the commercial and scientific worlds that began to dominate their culture.
Please take a look at the 1997 Team Roster for more information and commentary regarding the P.R.B. , reaction to the movement, their official organ The Germ, and references.
