The BHUTAN VANGUARDS are one of the original cosmic teams created in 1981. The team is composed of individuals who have been distinguished in the field of art, primarily painters and drawers. Last year the Vanguards were second in the cosmic Middleleague winning 86 games and losing 76 (.531 winning percentage).This year's team has only one rookie, Fred Williams, a modern Australian artist. But the most unusual new face is Robert Mapplethorpe's, the new field manager. It is unusual not because in real life Mapplethorpe's work was unconventional and controversial but because he is the first photographer to manage this team of mostly painters. Are we about to see the displacement of painters by photographers?
