The Heartland Capitalists, CBA's captains-of-industry team, compete in the Cosmic Middle League. The Capitalists were created on November 30, 1983 (CBA Executive Bulletin No. 67) and played in the old Cosmic Flat League. In thirteen seasons the team has won 1119 games and lost 961. The team has been to the Cosmic Universal Series twice. In 1984, their first cosmic season, they beat the Bhutan Vanguards and in 1994 they lost to the Alphatown Ionians.
The Capitalists always field a strong team. Since 1994 when Michael Jordan bought the team from Horatio Alger and brought in Karl Marx as the field manager there has been more of an emphasis on drafting economists and less on pure business folk. This year of the six rookies, three are economic theorists (Keynes, Malthus, and Ricardo).
Last season overall attendance was down and some observers have speculated the fans prefer big spending businessmen instead of egg-headed number crunchers. The bottom line is performance, as it should be. This year's Capitalists look as strong as ever.
