The Beat Generation vortex had its beginnings in the latitudes and longitudes of a culture that had just experienced the plight of the depression, the blight of World War II and the detonation of the atomic bomb. You weren't going to need a weatherman to tell you which way the wind blows because you wouldn't be around to feel the breeze. The number of tomorrows seemed limited.

America began dotting and crossing the land with little ticky-tack houses, all in a row. It was as if humanity could be saved if we all hunkered down and chanted the same song.

But Moloch still creeps about, chanters still implore us to hunker down. Some particulars change, but the weather hasn't. And this explains why the vortex keeps spinning. It isn't nostalgia, it isn't sentimental, it isn't a cool breeze.

This roster is dedicated to all those who still desire to sing a different tune, to blow a different song. It's time to pick up our windy instruments and blow the roof off. It is, finally, for all those

angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.
