The Bhutan Vanguards, CBA's team of artists, compete in the Cosmic Middle League. The Vanguards return to cosmic baseball after a two season suspension imposed when they failed to meet certain performance minimums. One of the original Flat League teams created on December 31, 1981 (CBA Executive Bulletin No. 8), the team's overall record stands at 931 wins and 1039 losses.
The Vanguards have been to the Cosmic Universal Series once. In 1992, with a record of 86-76 they met the Nirvanaville Yogis (100-62) in the Series. Nobody expected the fair-to-middling' paintboys to fare very well but they beat the Yogis in an improbable four-game sweep.
The following season, 1993, the Vanguards were back in the cosmic cellar posting the worst record of the season, 64-98. After a contentious 1994 season, the league decided to suspend the squad and give management a chance to regroup.
Original owner Charles Foster Kane sold the team to a young woman, Tess Rose, who promptly canned longtime manager Marcel Duchamp. Rose hired the flamboyant Salvador Dali who with general manager Claude Monet spent two years acquiring new players. This year's team includes 12 rookies including three green pitchers. The most notable newcomer is the 8 year old Hitomi Yoshida, a young girl from Japan.
