COMMENTS:This is getting to be a very interesting series. Game 5 may be the pick of the litter. President Gerald Ford's fifth inning homerun won the game for the visiting Presidents but it was Presidential pitchers Richard Nixon and James Polk who combined to keep the Busriders to one run.
If you like low-scoring pitching duels, this game was delightful.
Sandy Lehmann-Haupt, one of the craziest of all the Busriders, went the distance and yielded only two runs. After a rocky first inning, when he served up a run on two walks and two singles, Lehmann-Haupt, also-known-as "dis-MOUNT", settled down and did a fine job until Ford took him to downtown Pranktown in the fifth with a solo homerun. President Richard Nixon, also-known-as "The Trickster", had the Busriders swinging every which way but straight accumulating six strikeouts in six strong innings. Polk cleaned up nicely, yielding only two back-to-back singles in the seventh, and nothing else.
The Presidents are sitting pretty as they take the Series back to their home court with a 3-2 lead.
