This season's Paul Arthur Memorial Cosmic Baseball Game honors Mr. Arthur's contributions to film education as a teacher and as a writer of film theory. A team of film schools and a team of film books compete on the cosmic field of play to honor Paul Arthur.

Feature film director Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull) enrolled in NYU Film School, where he received his MFA in film directing in 1966.

Alfred Hitchcock's (Psycho) father died when he was 14. In the same year, Hitchcock left St. Ignatius to study at the London County Council School of Engineering and Navigation in Poplar, London. After graduating, he became a draftsman and advertising designer with a cable company.

Independent filmmaker Kevin Smith (Clerks): He then attended The New School and the Vancouver Film School, where he met Scott Mosier, his producer for almost every movie that he has made. He majored in film, but dropped out halfway through his studies, electing to take a partial tuition reimbursement in order to help finance his first film.

Experimental filmmaker Warren Sonbert (Carriage Trade) upon graduation from high school enrolled at New York University to study film. In his second year at NYU, Sonbert made his first 16mm movie, Amphetamine,
