This was the last game of the 2009 Season and it had no effect on the post-season.
The Washington Presidents have had a terrible season. "A year of transition, a growth and development year"...are just two of the explanations uttered from the mouths of managers, top and mid-level, throughout the Presidents' organization. It has been, more accurately, a "season of woe" for the chief executives of the United States government.
However, this particular game was a spectacular victory for the Presidents. Thry won it in the bottom of the ninth inning when Woodrow Wilson smacked a single into deep center scoring John Q. Adams with the tieing run and Rutherford Hayes with the winning run.
The Mosaics opened up the game with five runs in the top of the first. President pitcher Ronald Reagan was shook up but stabilized himself. But no pitcher could contain the extremely hot bat of Mosaic firstbasewoman Nurse Strangelove. The Nurse was 5-for-5, with three runs scored and two batted in. But for naught because it was the Presidents who closed on fire.
So the last game of the season ended on a positive note for the Presidents. What's not clear is how they plan to improve for next season. Rumors about Ted Kennedy joining the management team are unfounded since if Kennedy goes anywhere it will be as a player for the Paradise Pisces.
The Krafft-Ebing Mosaics finished below average in their rookie season and their status for next season is not known. The Mosaics were an interesting team to watch but they had identification issues which apparently befuddled some of their potential fans.
