In the top of the second inning, Pisces centerfielder Patty Hearst drew a two-out base on balls from Beat pitcher Bill Burroughs (Burroughs had just moments before struck out race car driver Lance Reventlow and before that he persuaded actress Diane Varsi to ground out to thirdbase). The Pisces were already in th lead, 1-0 on the strength of musician Fats Domino's first inning, two-out home run. After Hearst's walk to firstbase, Pisces catcher Felicia Gleaton also drew a walk (on four straight pitches). Pisces at first and second, two outs and Pisces starter Kelsey Grammer enters the batter's box. Burroughs sends a fastball high and tight, Grammer swings and hits the ball forcefully into right field sending Patty Hearst across the home plate for the second Pisces run.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, American poet and Pisces thirdbaseman comes up to bat. Two phenomenal American writers, albeit from quite different generations, facing down one another. The count rose to thrre-and-two and Lonfellow bounced four balls foul before hitting a single to right field, causing Gleaton to cross the plate for the second Pisces run of the inning, setting the score at 3-0. Longfellow, in fact, had hit the game winning rbi (run batter in) and on the basis of that game fact, he was elected the game's most cosmic player. |
