2011 Shrine of the Eternals

Results of the balloting of the Baseball Reliquary's members in April 2011 resulted in the election of three more individuals to the Reliquary's Shrine of the Eternals.

There were 50 names on the 2011 ballot and former major leaguer Maury Wills received the highest voting percentage. One-armed outfielder Pete Gray and Ted Giannoulas, the man inside the San Diego Chicken mascot, placed second and third respectively.

All three will be formally inducted at a ceremony on July 17, 2011 at the Donald R. Wright Auditorium in the Pasadena Central Library, Pasadena, California.

2011 Train Day Game

This year's Train Day game had an additional element because soldiers from the United States found plans outlining a terrorist attack on North American railroads. These plans were discovered in Osama Bin Laden's Pakistan home at the end of April and media sources have indicated there might have been a plan to attack the railroad system on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 airplane attacks.

This game's umpires were selected from those members of the United States House of Representatives who voted in favor of Amendment No. 43 which would have reduced Amtrak's 2011 capital grant by $446 million. The amendment was defeated, 250-176 (nayes to ayes).

Pisces @ Poeticons

In the real world the Bolex H-9 movie camera never caught on with the home movie fan, probably because of its 9.5mm format. But on the cosmic baseball field, during this particular contest, the Bolex H-9 was a star. This game also featured the recently departed Usama Bin Laden in his debut as a cosmic baseball umpire.

Diseases @ Medicines

A group of medicines defeated the diseases they were designed to defeat. But that apparent balance was off-set by the horrendous jeering from the stands directed at the umpires. It was ceaseless from the first inning onward.

420 League Linescores

Each season, on the unofficial marijuana holiday, the Cosmic Baseball Association publishes linescores from games played in the subterranean 420 League. Because of CBA's agreement with the 420 League we publish only the linescores from 420 League games played today. We do not publish the game scorecards. 420 team rosters are also considered "classified" data by the 420 League.

A short video with brief interviews of two 420 League field managers has also been released for public consumption by the 420 League.

Washington Presidents @ Bolex Poeticons

Has the power of the image absolutely co-opted the power of statesmen? Has the power of politics joined with the power of the image to become absolutely dominant and powerful? The defeat of the non-humanoid Bolex Poeticons at the hands of the Washington Presidents doesn't tell us anything that would help us answer these questions.

Carbohydrates @ Proteins

The Carbohydrates won this personal cosmic baseball game even though excessive intake of harmful carbohydrates such as cakes, sweets, potatoes, white bread and pasta are the main culprits behind the rise in obesity and cardiovascular disease despite a drop in dietary saturated fats over the past 20 years.

Bolex Poeticons @ Dharma Beats

The Dharma Beats won because William S. Burroughs is a crafty pitcher who doesn't offer up many bases on balls...and Charles Plymell is a serious hitter who can double at will. The Bolex Poeticons are a rookie team in the league and at times that shows. Experience is important in regulated baseball game competition.

Pisces @ Presidents

Barack Obama served up six bases-on-balls and the Presidents still beat the Pisces in a game highlighted by seven doubleplays. Despite the walks, Obama shut out the Pisces and thanks to Harry Truman's 8th inning pinch hit, the chief executives squeezed out the win. Pat Nixon gave up eight hits but good defense behind her kept the Presidents to one run...that was enough to win this game.

2011 Kerouac Memorial Game

Statistics don't always tell the story. For example, if you search YouTube for ""Jack Kerouac" videos you get 2,410 results (as of 12:01 AM EST on 3/12/2011). A similar search at Vimeo yields 199 results. The Youtube Kerouac Videos had 15 hits, the Vimeos had 9. Nevertheless, it was the Vimeo Kerouac Videos that won the game. (Parenthetically, both teams played errorless baseball for 8.5 innings).

The Regulated Season

On the Ides of March we know that the Paradise Pisces and the Dharma Beats will play the regulated season opener. What we do not know is what other teams will also be in the regulated overleague which traditionally plays a 162 game season between March 15 and Labor Day. There are as many questions as answers as we move closer to opening day.

One important game that gets played before opening day is the Jack Kerouac Memorial game. This cosmic baseball game helps us remember the American writer who would be celebrating his 89th birthday on March 12 (if he had not died in October 1969.) Kerouac videos uploaded at the YouTube website will play the cast from the soon to be released movie On The Road.

Another Bolex Poetics?

Rumors of another Bolex Poetics cosmic baseball team continue to swirl around the CBA campus in Washington DC. The original Bolex Poetics were created March 4, 1996 and competed in ten regulated seasons (1996-2005) before being deactivated on March 11, 2006. It would be very unusual for a "new" Bolex Poetics team to be recreated (instead of reactivated). The new team apparently has a completely different ownership/management staff...& that's all we know right now.

Freud's Disciples @ Hitchcock's Films

The first cosmic baseball game of 2011 was played between disciples of the psychologist Sigmund Freud and films directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Hitchcock's films won the contest and the ever-popular Psycho (two hits, a triple and a homerun) was named the game's Most Cosmic Player.

Marnie was the winning pitcher and Wilhelm Reich the loser. Reich's team helped him yield 9 runs (5 unearned) to the opposition.
