The Vestal Virgins were created in Maryland on July 15, 1982. The team represents interesting women and assignment to the roster is restricted to women only. The Virgins have been to the Cosmic Universal Series twice. The first time was in 1986 when they defeated the Telecity Superbas in four straight games. The Virgins' second trip to the CUS ended in defeat when they lost to the now deactivated Pianoburg Pianists in seven games.
Season 2000 brings a new field manager to the team in the person of poet Anne Sexton who is a former pitcher for the Virgins. Rookies this season include pitcher Edie Sedgwick of Andy Warhol film fame, Evelyn Johnson a pioneer woman aviator, and shortstop Lissa Roche who killed herself after revealing she had had an affair with her husband's father.
