The Dharma Roses team was created on November 28, 1998 in Silver Spring, Maryland. The team represents women associated with the Beat Generation either as writers, painters, models, wives, lovers, muses, etc. This is the second cosmic baseball team from the place called Dharma. Many of the original Roses had played at one time or another for the related Dharma Beats who compete in the cosmic Overleague.
For Season 2000 the Roses reactivated former Beat Natalie Jackson and drafted rookie Marie Mencken. Natalie Jackson was an artist's model and one of Neal Cassady's lovers. Marie Mencken, while not formally associated with the Beat Generation, exerted a significant influence over the subterranean cultures of the 1940s and 1950s.
