American Rocket Scientist (1882-1945)
Robert Hutchings Goddard is the enigmatic father of modern rocket science. Goddard conducted research into the use of solid-propellant rockets publishing his results in the landmark 1919 publication of A Method of Reaching Extreme Altitudes. On March 16, 1926 Goddard fired the world's first liquid-propellant rocket that burned gasoline and liquid oxygen. The rocket travelled 184 feet. In recognition of his contribution to the field of astronautics, the National Air and Space Administration (NASA) named its Greenbelt, Maryland facility the Goddard Space Flight Center.
Last season, as a rookie, Goddard hit sixteen roundtrippers and whacked in 70 runs AND he didn't miss a single game in rightfield.
