1996 Paradise PiscesDigit spent all of his short fifteen years of life living in the dense misty Virunga mountains that rise between the borders of Rwanda, Zaire, and Uganda in Africa. The mountain gorillas (gorilla gorilla beringei) when studied by Dian Fossey, the well-known sociologist who spent fifteen years researching them, numbered only 240. Today, while still protected by the Rwandan government, the mountain gorilla population exceeds 600. Digit was Fossey's favorite because of his gentle demeanor and willingness to accept humans. Sadly, Digit was killed by poachers. He had become internationally known because he was the poster gorilla for Rwanda's Parcs Nationaux. His death was announced by Walter Cronkite on the CBA Evening News in the United States..
Digit is the first mountain gorilla to be drafted by a cosmic team. There's quite a bit of interest in this rookie who earned the nickname "Kong" when he played in the Endangered Species League.
