THE WONDERLAND WARRIORS are CBA's team of military personnel. The Warriors have been playing cosmic baseball since 1983 and typically field competitive teams. The Warriors were a strong team during the 1980s and they won the Cosmic Universal Series twice in 1987 and 1989. In the 1990s the team has fallen on tougher times. This season's team includes a dozen rookies including a new team owner, the mythological Greek god of war, Ares.
THE LANNING RATING. For the first time this year we have utilized the Lanning Military Leadership Ratings.Michael Lanning has written The Military 100 (Citadel Press. New Jersey. 1996), an interesting book about the 100 most influential military leaders in history. Twenty of the Warriors on this year's roster have been ranked by Lanning. These rankings appear at the player's entry on this plate.
For your information, the five most influential military leaders as ranked by Lanning are: George Washington, Napoleon I, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, and Julius Caesar. In his "Foreword" Mr. Lanning writes:
The most influential leaders in world history have come not from the church, the halls of government, or the scholastic centers, but from the ranks of soldiers and sailors.
PLAYER PLATES. Individual player plates will be published during the season. Player plates provide more detailed information about the player and generally include links to other related sites. If a player has a plate use the hypertext link on the name next to their image in this roster. If you have additional information about a player or corrections to the current information, please write to us at editor@cosmicbaseball.com. We very much appreciate your comments.

The standard definition of war is that its object is to impose the will of one group upon a rival group. The absence of war, when objectives are agreed upon, is peace. But peace is not war's true opposite.Mythology suggests the way here. Ares, the Greek god of War, fell in love with Aphrodite who at the time was married to Hephaestus. Dismayed at Ares' behavior, Hephaestus trapped and exposed the adulterous affair to the other gods. Plato points out that Ares the warrior-conquereor was himself conquered by love. (Symposium, 196d). The absence of war may be peace, but the opposite of war is love. The counterculture of the 1960s understood this intuitively as the then-popular mantra "make love not war" suggests.
It is, of course, naive to believe that war can be eradicated by love, diplomacy, or any other means. It is as much a part of human nature as love. And like love, war is often about great passions.
It might make for a less tragic reading of history if the golden rule of Zen Judaism, "play nice, don't fight" had always been followed, but, alas, that's not our human way.
COSMIC PLAYER RECORDS. If the CBA Baseball icon (shown left) appears at a player's roster entry, then a link to that player's cosmic record in the CBA statistical database is available. Just click on the baseball icon to view the player's cosmic record.
